The Nicks And Scrapes Of Summer

If you find yourself with typical summer wounds-anything from bug bites to scrapes and scratches-but don’t want the scars or hyperpigmenation that often last weeks after the wound has healed, you can follow a few simple steps to keep your skin looking like nothing ever happened.

After you get a wound, clean it, and apply triple antibiotic ointment. Do your best to keep it clean, covered and moist 24/7 until it is completely healed. If you don’t want to use a bandage, you may want to try Tegaderm, an adhesive dressing for the skin (the kind used to hold IVs in place).

Once the wound has fully healed and any scabbing, scaling or crusting is gone-do not pick!-apply a daily lotion with glycolic acid, like DDF Glycolic Body Lotion, to maintain moisture and exfoliate, and apply a daily sunscreen. If the wound is particularly red, raised or discolored, sleep with the Tegaderm or an over-the-counter scar tape on until you achieve a flawless finish.
