If blow-dry bars are beyond booming, then their counterparts of everything else beauty are on the verge of making their full-on breakthrough. So what’s next? We took a look at six outposts that are offering up the best in one-specialty services.
One of the first beauty bars on the scene is still one of the most popular. Perfect for when you want full-on glam or just something a little more polished, Blushington (it started three years ago in Los Angeles, but now has two other locations, including a brand-new one in Orange County) anchors its philosophy that “feeling pretty is priceless.” With a setting that’s comfortable and chic and a talented staff that teaches easy-to-follow classes so you can recreate the looks at home, it’s not a hard one to follow.
Scottsdale Braid Bar
They may be a throwback to the days when your mom patiently did your ’do in pigtails or the French variety, but today’s braids have gone way beyond the looks of your youth, with styles that strut everywhere from the runway to the red carpet. Latest to the scene: Scottsdale’s Braid Bar, a superspecialized salon run by Braid Baristas who are always up-to-date with the latest trends (seriously, you won’t believe the styles they come up with) that are perfect for special events or just a slightly more polished day at the office.
We’ve all sported that one can’t-miss spot on our face that doesn’t necessarily call for a trip to the derm but calls for something to clear it up, stat. Enter Clear Clinic, a five location skin-care treatment center in New York that specializes in treating—and only treating—acne and acne scars. Whether you have a blemish you just can’t cover up or stubborn scars you want to erase, these posh, doctor-run spaces can get you in and out in a snap, and also prescribe a skin-care plan that will be tailored to your specific needs.
Keratin Lounge by Lasio
Blowouts are great, but for a more permanent, wake-up-everyday- to-perfect-hair look, keratin treatments take top billing. That’s why New York’s Keratin Lounge by Lasio, which opened in June, specializes in that spotlight service with a silky-strand, formaldehyde-free service that transforms even the unruliest frizzy locks. And, according to creator Nadine Ramos, that’s not where it ends. “It is not just a beauty bar, it’s an experience.”
Nail salons seldom offer the solo service of, well, nails, but rather, a multitude of menu options for all of your grooming needs. While that’s great for one-stop beauty multitasking, sometimes you just want a good manicure—and that’s exactly what Paintbox nail studio in New York delivers. The mani-only (they don’t even do pedicures) spot showcases superchic brands, curated color choices (there’s only 50) and complimentary champagne at its in-house bar.
Do you schedule your blowouts around your workout days? If so, Glam&Go has a solution. The concept: Using just product (they favor Paul Mitchell) and hair tools, they can make over your sweaty, elastic-indented strands into mega-fresh styles in just 15 minutes. Best of all, the chain now boasts 10 locations in three states (two of which are in Manhattan-area exhale spas) and founder Erika Wasser plans to open more by the end of the year.
