Every time I pack for a new trip and run out of room in my suitcase (every single time), I ask myself the same question to help edit down my extensive—and clunky—hair care selection: “How do you wear your hair most often?” And while the answer is usually in loose barrel curls, I can’t be the only one filled with a tinge of anxiety just thinking about only able to bring ONE type of hair tool on a trip, right? Thankfully, Sarah Potempa—you’ve probably heard of her as the creator of the cult-classic Beachwaver or seen her in backstage videos at Victoria’s Secret fashion shows helping the Angels rock those never-fail curls down the runway—is about to blow our minds again with the relaunch of the Coast Pro ($169–$189) that combines multiple styling tools into one sleek option.
At first glance, the Coast Pro looks like a chic flat iron, but what makes it even more unique than its already game-changing features (more on these later), are the easy-to-use attachments you’re able to easily snap on and off to create a just-left-the-salon blowout at home or while traveling. The parts are shaped just like a round brush for a smooth, silky finish you won’t have to brush through or fuss with once you’re finished, but that’s not even the best part—the tool and the attachments are close to foolproof to use, too. Place your hair between the plates as usual (starting at your roots each time) and use the tool to lift the root up before quickly turning your wrist under to create a “C” formation. Once the hair is totally wrapped around the attachment, the heat will create a bouncy blowout as you glide it through the length of your hair. If creating sleek, straight strands and a professional-grade blowout from one tool with barely any effort (take it from me) isn’t enough, the styler can also be used for creating Kendall Jenner-approved, S-shaped waves you (and I) thought were only attainable from a curling wand.

No matter which style you’re after, the standout features are the same and work to make your life way easier: Two types of plates are available depending on your hair type (titanium, $189, is recommended for curly, coarse or thick hair to tame frizz and add shine, while the ceramic, $169, option is ideal for thinner, straighter locks that tend to be less frizzy); the tool can heat up to 450 degrees in just 17 seconds; it features an ergonomic handle for comfortable styling; Touch Sense technology monitors the iron to reduce heat during non-use and automatically returns to previous temperature when touched; and an automatic shut off kicks in after 30 minutes so the only thing you have to think about is which style you’ll create next.
Now when it comes time to pack for a trip, things move much quicker without any guesswork or picking favorites involved. It’s quickly become my must-have tool for all the styles I love—straight, wavy and a classic blowout—especially while traveling, because if there’s ever a time you should love your hair every single day, it’s when you’re on vacation. Check out the styles the tool can create below and pick one up for yourself at Ulta on April 16!
