I just had my first cavity and was really nervous about getting a filling. My dentist suggested that we try using nitrous oxide to keep me comfortable. All my dentist did was put a little mask over my nose and I felt completely relaxed and normal the entire time-not groggy at all.
My dentist also told me about another option for those who are especially squeamish about dental work. It’s called conscious sedation and all you have to do is take a little pill (with or without nitrous oxide) and you’ll be anxiety-free and comfortable throughout the whole dental procedure. To my surprise, later that week, I saw a segment on Good Morning America about conscious sedation featuring cosmetic dentist Jason Kasarksy, DDS.
