Summer is long gone and while beach season might have come to an end, there’s a lot to love about autumn— tall boots, cozy sweaters, and scarves for one. But in addition to updating your wardrobe this fall, you might want to revamp your skin-care regimen too. “It’s critical to change things up when the weather cools down. Drier fall air brings about a host of potential skin issues, but it’s possible to look beautiful—and defy your age all season long,” says Lincolnshire, IL, dermatologist Amy Forman Taub, MD.
As you move your routine from summer to fall, Dr. Taub suggests using a humidifier—it’s like a moisturizing treatment all night long. Also, try showering with lukewarm water instead of hot, (hot water can be really drying to the skin) and follow with a good moisturizer on your own body and face after stepping out. Using fragrance-free soap and laundry detergent will prevent skin issues for those with sensitive skin, Dr. Taub adds. And last but not least—don’t forget the SPF each day—just because summer is over doesn’t mean the sun’s harmful rays aren’t out.
