There’s no doubt about it, plastic surgery is on the rise. What used to be considered taboo is now becoming more and more popular. But whether you’re looking to make a small change or a big one, surgery is surgery, and with that comes risks that some worry about. That’s why surgeons want you to know that when performed by the right doctors, cosmetic surgery can be very beneficial, both physically and psychologically.
With countless stories of plastic surgery nightmares and unsafe breast implants out there, it’s easy to question the safety of any procedure. That’s why the new president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), Leo R. McCafferty, MD, has made it his mission to educate the public to help avoid scandals.
To help with their efforts, ASAPS has enlisted the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF) to research and select the best new technologies and procedures.
“It is our job to stress the importance of proper credentials and only having surgery performed in a fully accredited facility, and this will continue to be a focus for us,” says McCafferty. To find a board-certified surgeon in your area, visit our expert finder.
