Past studies have tried to connect a higher incidence of suicide with breast implants. Now, a new study validates there is no higher incidence of suicide or death among women with silicone breast implants for reconstruction purposes.
Scheduled to appear in the journal Psychosomatics in April, a letter from the Connecticut Department of Public Health reports the findings using actuarial and statistical analysis from breast cancer registries including the National Cancer Institute Epidemiology and SEER program to make its conclusions. The study looked at both five- and 10-year follow-ups, and in both cases, found no statistical differences among suicide or death for women having reconstruction with silicone breast implants, women having other forms of reconstruction and women who chose not to have reconstruction.
