Middle-aged women who take fruit and vegetable concentrate supplements see an increase in skin microcirculation, density and hydration, according to a new study published in the January 2012 issue of Skin Pharmacology and Physiology. Lending more support to the importance of nutrients to skin health.
The 52 women in the study either took a fruit and vegetable concentrate twice a day for 12 weeks or were given a placebo during the Institute for Experimental Dermatology at the University of Witten-Herdecke in Germany.
The researchers studied their skin’s density and hydration and found that the women who took the concentrate had an increase in microcirculation by 39 percent, hydration improved by nine percent, skin thickness was boosted six percent and density increased by 16 percent. The placebo group on the other hand only saw a slight increase in skin density. The scientists say these findings further reinforce the role of good nutrition in skin health.
