Sober Scents: How Fragrances Could Go Alcohol-Free featured image

The vast majority of popular fragrances are based in alcohol, whether synthetic or naturally derived. However, a new innovation may lead to water-based scents that are kinder to both skin and the environment.

Dow has created an award-winning alcohol-free fragrance system that defies the notion that water-based fragrances cannot be potent or lasting. Recently utilized by perfume pioneer Coty for a new Nautica scent, the patent-pending technology allows oils to be mixed with water in a stabilized way.

The micro-emulsion method results in a biodegradable fragrance formula, which is less drying for skin and less harsh for the environment, yet just as fresh and enduring as traditional formulas.
