Chocolate is one of the most universally loved foods in the world, and while we definitely condone indulging in all that sweet-tasting goodness as much as you can, there’s a new chocolate trend on the market that you should probably stay away from. “Snortable” chocolate now exists and people are seriously intrigued.
An Orlando-based company named Legal Lean recently created a chocolate powder called Coco Loko that was made specifically for consumers to snort rather than eat. According to the website, the product contains raw cocao powder with a “special energy blend” added to it. Some ingredients included are gingko biloba, guarana and taurine—all of which are also found in energy drinks.

While seemingly bizarre, this product is intended to boost your levels of serotonin and endorphins while also increasing your feelings of euphoria. The company compares the feeling to that of a “runners high” and is “similar to the feeling of ecstasy.”
According to an interview with The Washington Post, 29-year-old founder, Nick Anderson, says he learned about the trend while in Europe. After trying a sample, he now considers “snortable” chocolate to be the future. He claims the effects can last between 30-minutes to an hour, and are “almost like an energy-drink feeling, like you’re euphoric but also motivated to get things done.”
Unfortunately, doctors aren’t convinced that snorting energizing chocolate is a good idea. Not only is it not approved by the Food and Drug Administration, but it uses the same energy drink ingredients that are always under constant speculation due to their negative health effects.
Overall, while this may seem like a more natural solution for getting a bit of a buzz, precaution should still be taken before trying it for yourself. Long-term effects of the product are unknown and could risk nasal irritation or damage. So, for now, stick to drinking your chocolate instead of snorting it.
