You may know Mario Dedivanovic as Kim Kardashian West’s go-to makeup artist or even as the “contour king” of Hollywood, but it turns out the world famous makeup professional has way more to offer than just his contouring tips.
Dedivanovic, who is partnering with Colgate Optic White for the launch of its new Radiant Toothpaste, recently spilled quite a few makeup tricks that have nothing to do with creating that Instagram-like, super sculpted facial look, and instead, have everything to do with creating a bronzed, glowy outcome.
His secret? It all starts with a good smoky eye, but not in the way you’d expect. Instead of using powder eye shadows, Dedivanovic opts for cream concealers that are five to six shades darker than his clients’ skin tones. The reasoning is that it appears more natural when applied and offers a “second skin” effect to the look.

“It’s the most natural, beautiful smoky eye a person can have—it looks like skin, but just darker skin,” says Dedivanovic. “You can blend it with a brush or your fingers. It acts like an eye shadow base but also gives you that pigment and depth to the eye for a smokier look.”
While Dedivanovic says you can certainly leave the look as is once the concealer has been applied, you can also add some powdered eye shadow on top of it if you’re looking for texture or a more dramatic finish. However, if you want to err on the side of a dewy makeup look, Dedivanovic recommends skipping the powder altogether and adding a $5 drugstore staple to your skin instead:
“Tap a petroleum jelly–based product, like Vaseline, onto the cheekbones and center of the eyes over the dark concealer to add a gorgeous, dewy glow to your look,” explained Dedivanovic. While this technique usually needs more touch-ups than usual (the product rubs off easily), it’s the easiest way to get that subtle, balmy shine without having to spend too much time doing your makeup.
