Make a change

According to BIC Soleil celebrity trainer Holly Rilinger, you’ll know when it’s time to get your body in gear. “We are all triggered by different things. It may be that you realize you are low on energy, that you don’t feel good in your clothes or you are constantly in pain and sick of it.” All of those factors, and more, can give you the willpower to make a change.

What to do first

Rilinger says to start off easy and not overdo it. Simple changes like eating a bit healthier at first and getting 30 minutes of exercise a day for the first few weeks will put you on the track to success. “Set some realistic goals so it’s easier to stay committed to getting fit.”

Get in the gym

It’s also important to find a workout you like. “If you’ve never worked out, try a few different things, like boxing, running, spin classes or barre, and see what works for you,” says Rilinger, who suggests setting a schedule for structure. “Book classes and pay for them upfront. Money is always a great motivation to hit the gym.”

Eat better

What you eat is just as important as what you do to work out. Keep your focus on clean, whole foods like lean proteins, vegetables and fruits while limiting consumption of alcohol and sugar. “Balance is key. Don’t make yourself miserable by eliminating everything you love, but make sure you build and maintain habits that lead to a balanced life,” says Rilinger.

Stick with it

“Commitment is key in creating momentum. Nothing is easy at first and there will be times when you want to quit. But you will never see the changes you want unless you are willing to push through those hard times,” says Rilinger.
