Go Slow

For hydration and to help prime the skin prior to applying makeup, Star says she loves using PIXI Rose Oil Blend ($24). Apply to freshly washed face and let it soak into the skin for about 10 minutes prior to applying makeup.

Eye Cream, Eye Cream, Eye Cream

For anyone who is battling with their concealer settling into the fine lines around the eyes a great trick is Eye Cream, Eye Cream, Eye Cream and more Eye Cream. “Apply with the ring finger around the orbital bone, give the eye cream a few minutes to soak in and repeat, repeat, repeat. This will plump up the delicate skin around the eye and smooth out the fine lines allowing the concealer to glide on with ease.”

Wake Up Your Eyes

Try using a flesh-toned eyeliner along the lower waterline of the eye. “This will make the eyes look more awake and help minimize the look of red bloodshot eyes,” Star says.

Get Clear Lipliner

If you love a bold lip color but hate that it starts to feather and looks messy after application, a great tip is using a clear lipliner to help hold in the color, without altering the hue of the lipstick.

Stay-Put Shadow

If you find that midday most of your eye shadow has vanished, try an eye shadow base. “By using an eye shadow base prior to applying eye shadow, you will find that your color is going to be more vivid, creasing is eliminated and the eye shadow lasts all day long. POP makes a great eye shadow primer that acts like magnet for eye shadows.”

Majorly Multitask

Sounds simple, but Star says a big way to save time is by applying your eye makeup first. “This way you don’t have to worry about any fall down from the eye shadow that muddies up the foundation. Just apply the eye makeup first and after apply your foundation/concealer.”

Invest in the Right Brushes

Star says the right brushes are the key to a perfect makeup application—the tools you use are just as important as the products in creating a beautiful face. “I love the new Bold Metals Collection from Real Techniques. They look sharp, stylish, they feel amazing and work like perfection. I love the whole collection but my new favorite is the 101 Triangle Foundation.”

And Be Big on Maintenance

There is no point in applying your makeup with a dirty brush. “It can lead to breakouts and a muddied look to your makeup. For your personal brushes I recommend cleaning them once a week. I love the brand Clean Brushes; they have a wide range of scents that really last in the brush, and it conditions the hair. Bacteria can grow on your makeup brushes and it is very common to get conjunctivitis (aka, pink eye) using dirty makeup brushes.”
