On My Radar: The Newest Spa Skin Saviors
By Liz Ritter, Executive Editor |
Whoever said anything from the spa isn’t totally effective was massively mistaken. Between the supereffective (and great-smelling) essentials oils and the hard-hitting, potent anti-aging ingredients, these products take the prize for delivering the spa experience at home, while guaranteeing to make your skin look instantly better.

The Super Hydrator: Bottega Organica Extra-Nourishing Leg Formula ($72)
This salve/balm/oil is like beauty Bengay that literally saves my tired legs after a long day. The olive oil–packed product goes on like silk, making even the driest skin superhydrated, and even has the added benefit of waking up exhausted legs and feet with its really zesty minty scent.
The Major Multitasker: RESCUE Serum & Moisturizer Combo ($129)
A recent run-in with some missing luggage has finally convinced me that I am never checking in a bag at the airport again—even if it means severely cutting back on my stash of toiletries when I travel. This serum-and-moisturizer team, designed to be used in tandem, showed up just in time to make the transition a success. The two-in-one pretty much manages to fix everything, including razor burn, redness, dark spots and discoloration. The secret is the stem cells, and a collagen-boosting formula that comes in easy-to-use single packets that make sure you are using only what you need so your skin gets the benefits.
The Neck Fixer: Dr. Lancer Contour Décolleté ($98)
The day you realize you need to start paying attention to your neck—stat—isn’t an easy one. I recently crossed over to this new area of skin-care problems this summer, and honestly had no idea where to start. This lightweight serum (the whole line is straddling the in-office/spa stratum, and that’s what makes it so interesting) made it a little bit easier. It has some really serious skin-care ingredients—which work on spots and sagginess and just make this often-neglected area look better—yet you feel like you are indulging in something uber-luxe every time you use it.
The Dark Circle Corrector: Decleor Aurabsolu Intense Glow for Eyes Dark Circle Corrector ($56)
This jasmine-scented, pink-hued cream is sort of like a skin-care/highlighter/concealer hybrid. Regardless of how you want to categorize it, it is pretty much the perfect product for making dark circles disappear. I recently applied it after having a terrible night’s sleep, only to be accompanied by a compliment from my coworker that I looked “really rested.”
The Do-It-All Anti-Aging Cream: Yon-Ka Excellence Code Cream ($185)
Oftentimes, when an anti-aging cream boasts of benefits like helping to lessen the appearance of sagging skin, wrinkles, lines, discoloration and uneven skin tone, I can bet that it will also come with the unwanted side effect of making me break out while it’s working its magic. This luxe cream doesn’t cause any negative side effects, but does successfully leave skin feeling soft, really hydrated and all-around better.
Healing in a Jar: June Jacobs Rapid Repair Healing Cream ($60)
Created by June Jacobs herself after a battle with radiation dermatitis while undergoing treatment for breast cancer, this skin-protecting cream leaves skin looking healthy, nourished and more resilient—without feeling the least bit greasy. As if that wasn’t enough, during the month of October, 25 percent of the net proceeds from every product purchased will be donated to The Anne Moore Breast Cancer Research Fund and 25 percent to the Dubin Breast Center.
A very well-know spa guru once told me, “You know you are having a good massage when you start to see colors.” I smiled, pretended I knew what he was talking about and proceeded to open my eyes during my next treatment to see what color the sheets were. Clearly, I was clueless—until I finally made the connection during Sothys new Art Beauty Body Treatment. It’s a hybrid massage-wrap-scrub treatment that uses a really cool color-light system in the room and little spoon-like devices to relax the muscles and work in the decadently scented lotions. It’s relaxing, energizing and leaves skin oh-so soft. sothys-usa.com
Yoga Meets Beauty
Saying you can’t work out before or during work because you get too sweaty is just about the best excuse ever. But now, thanks to the new brand YUNI, it’s totally debunked. The body-, skin- and hair-care line is “yoga-inspired;” according to the creators, that descriptor means all of the products have a similar effect and intention (everything is all-natural and has aromatherapy benefits, for starters) to the practice of yoga, but are also completely practical for pretty much everyone. The No-Rinse Body Cleansing Foam (you get clean minus water), the Instant Shower Sheets (again, no shower involved) and the Microveil Hair Treatment (a sort of more moisturizing dry shampoo) will have you hooked even if you aren’t a fan of doing downward dog. yunibeauty.com
