Makeup Artist Must-Haves: Gary Cockerill

As a young child, Gary Cockerill would spend hours drawing and painting faces. “I defaced all of my parents’ album covers, even adding lashes and lipsticks to magazine covers when I thought I could make the person look more glamorous,” he says in his new book Simply Glamorous (debuting October 13, 2015). Today, he is best known for his technical makeup mastery, working with with top celebrities like Eva Longoria, David Beckham, Isla Fisher and Melanie Griffith.

Here, we asked him to share some of his makeup favorites—the products he uses on his top clients—so that we can steal the looks.

Studio 10 Age Defy Skin Perfector

“The peach corrector is an absolute must-have for correcting dark under-eye circles. It’s also amazing for correcting age spots or pigmentation issues, as they have the same blue/purple undertone. I use the green color corrector to neutralize redness, blotchiness and cover up broken veins. Start with a little and add more where it’s needed. It’s also jam-packed with anti-aging ingredients and it's the perfect size for those ‘on-the-go’ touch-ups.” $52, studio10beauty.com

Tom Ford Cheek Color Blush

“This blusher makes cheeks pop—it adds a lively, but subtle shot of color, and the finish is gorgeous. Layer it to create a more dramatic look and sculpt your cheekbones. It’s perfect for everyday wear and it's super long-lasting. For a really youthful look, apply it over the highest points of your cheeks and cheekbones, which gives instant lift and radiance.” $60, tomford.com

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder Compact

“The texture is super soft and wakes up skin to provide a radiant, healthy glow. All the shades are really natural, and blend easily into skin, so you don't get that overworked ‘powdery’ finish. Apply it to your forehead, the bridge of your nose, and your cheeks and chin—the places where the sun catches—rather than all over your face. Blending is key to achieving a natural finish, and always build up coverage slowly. This product really allows for a customized finish.” $40, sephora.com

By Terry Light Expert Perfecting Foundation

“It gives really great coverage, but also works to look after your skin. It helps to correct skin undertones and keep skin hydrated all day long. It also helps reduce the look of wrinkles, blemishes and imperfections. I love it because it’s packed with anti-aging ingredients that help restore and revitalize skin. The brush head adapts perfectly to the contours of the face, too.” $65, violetgrey.com

Touch In Sol Stretchex Stretch Lash Effect Mascara

“This mascara is packed with lash-conditioning ingredients, so it not only makes your lashes appear thicker and fuller, but also promotes growth. It’s smudge resistant and lasts all day long. The brush picks up just the right amount of formula and only takes one swipe to cover all of your lashes! Curl your eyelashes before applying, which will help to really open up your eyes.” $22, sephora.com

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss

“This formula gives a high-shine finish without being overly shimmery, and it’s nonsticky, which is essential. Layer it over lipstick for an intensely pigmented finish. It's perfect for a statement lip look.” $16, anastasiabeverlyhills.com

Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Brush

“I love Kevyn Aucoin brushes because they are a professional quality, the hair doesn't shed and the design is great. The kit includes every brush that you could ever need to create a complete flawless face. My favorite brush is the sculpting brush—it's perfect for precise definition where it’s needed.” $32, dermstore.com
