Body Peels: A Simple Solution For Sun Damage

According to New York dermatologist Dendy Engelman, MD, tanning and excessive sun exposure can leave behind the same type of freckles, hyperpigmentation and sunspots on your back that you typically see on your face. “In order to address it in the office, I like to use the new SkinCeuticals Pigment Balancing Peel. It’s great for treating discoloration and sun damage on the back post summer,” she says. “The two-step treatment consists of cleansing and prepping the skin and then applying the peel—a combination of skin-lightening agents and powerful acids that help fade spots and improve skin tone. Patients will see results after one treatment, but may need more.” If a peel isn’t for you, Dr. Engelman recommends using body wash with glycolic acid to remove superficial pigment, or a few sessions of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), which targets deeper discoloration.
