Celebrities are no longer just the famous faces modeling the latest beauty products in advertisements—now they’re the ones actually creating the products, too. Here, we give you the scoop on the top nine celebrity beauty brands making the biggest industry buzz.
The Celeb: Salma Hayek
The Brand: Nuance Salma Hayek
The Details: Award-winning actress Salma Hayek (also one of our NewBeauty cover stars) has added beauty expert to her extensive list of talents. Inspired by her grandmother, a cosmetologist who developed her own homemade beauty remedies, Salma developed Nuance Salma Hayek in collaboration with CVS/pharmacy. “I wanted to create a line of premium beauty products that were both effective and affordable using the ingredients and knowledge passed down to me from my grandmother,” she says. A comprehensive assortment of skin care, cosmetics, hair care and body care, the collection includes more than 100 products that were designed to enhance the nuances that define every woman’s individual beauty. Ingredients such as blue agave, prickly pear and lime enzyme, which were used in the products’ formulas, were made available to the mass market for the first time.
The Celeb: Cindy Crawford
The Brand: Meaningful Beauty
The Details: World-renowned supermodel Cindy Crawford continues to set beauty standards even as she approaches her 50s. She credits her beautiful skin to French anti-aging specialist Dr. Jean Louis Sebagh. When Cindy was 28, her makeup artist and friend suggested she see Dr. Sebagh due to the condition of her skin as a result of heavy makeup, hot lights and constant air travel. After experiencing great results, Cindy asked Dr. Sebagh to partner with her to create Meaningful Beauty so that all women could have access to his successful skin-care remedies. Launched in 2003, Meaningful Beauty is a simple, yet highly effective system where each antioxidant-packed product has a meaningful role whether it’s cleansing, protecting, nourishing or restoring your skin.
The Celeb: Jessica Alba
The Brand: The Honest Company
The Details: Acclaimed actress and entrepreneur Jessica Alba found herself frustrated trying to find the perfect products for both her children and her home. She teamed up with Christopher Gavigan, a nationally recognized environmental health leader who shared similar sentiments, to develop The Honest Company, a brand that provides safe, eco-friendly products ranging from baby-care to cleaning supplies. “When I was pregnant, I read Christopher Gavigan’s book Healthy Child Healthy World: Creating a Cleaner, Greener, Safer Home and learned about toxic chemicals in everyday products,” says Jessica. “Needless to say, I was shocked and upset. So, I spent hours researching and trying to shop around the problem. I’d shell out way more money for the products in brown packaging…only to get home and find out the diapers I just bought still had ingredients in them I was trying to avoid. So, I created Honest.com because, as a mom, I needed it and wanted someone to do it better. Turns out, a lot of other parents did, too.”

The Celeb: Drew Barrymore
The Brand: FLOWER
The Details: As if actress, producer and director roles weren’t impressive enough, Drew Barrymore also set her sights on the beauty world. “I’ve been in the makeup chair my whole life,” says Drew. “I’ve also worked with the best makeup artists in the world and I was also cocreative director at CoverGirl. Because of all of these things, I have learned so much and felt compelled to start my own line, FLOWER.” Exclusively sold at Walmart, the collection is centered on all of Drew’s favorite cosmetics that she’s used on and off screen throughout her career and consists of more than 181 products in a range of categories including eye, face, lip, nail, and even fragrance.
The Celeb: Iman
The Brand: IMAN Cosmetics
The Details: International supermodel and beauty icon Iman is the creative force behind IMAN Cosmetics, which she debuted in 1994. Designed for women with skin of color among many races, cultures and ethnicities (the cosmetic line includes 16 shades of foundation), Iman’s product collections range from makeup to skin care. “Throughout my career, I had to create makeup that looked good on me, by being a good chemist,” says Iman. “So, I decided to introduce my own line because I realized there wasn’t a product on the marked that met me needs or the needs of a majority of women throughout the world.” Education is also a big focus for the brand. “I want women to tell us what their needs are, rather than us telling them what they ought to be. I’m not telling anyone that I can make them look like a model, but I can make them look their best,” she adds.
The Celeb: Katie Holmes
The Brand: Alterna Haircare
The Details: In 2013, actress and entrepreneur Katie Holmes became co-owner and celebrity spokesperson for Alterna Haircare, a cutting-edge, professional hair-care brand that entered the beauty scene nearly 18 years ago and has been loved by top stylists ever since. “I’m really proud to be a part of this company–not only because the products are incredible, but because their ‘accessible luxury’ and ‘free of’ philosophy really speaks to me,” says Katie. “I love that Alterna uses natural and organic ingredients and stays away from harsh chemicals like sulfates and parabens. It’s good for my hair and good for the earth, so I feel good using it. If I had to pick one word to describe what happens to my hair when I use Alterna, it would have to be transformation.”
The Celeb: Miranda Kerr
The Brand: Kora Organics
The Details: Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr wanted to develop a skin-care line made up of products that she had always wanted for herself but was unable to find anywhere in the world. In 2009, she launched Kora Organics, which she developed in conjunction with some of Australia’s top organic chemists and aromatherapists. “The products represent my healthy/balanced lifestyle, my beliefs and my love of organics,” she says. “They bring together the very best in skin-care ingredients that are designed to nourish, replenish and hydrate the skin. We use only the highest-quality certified organic and natural ingredients. Remember: What you put on your skin soaks in—use organic!”
The Celebs: Kim Kardashian West, Kourtney Kardashian and Khloé Kardashian
The Brands: Kardashian Beauty and Kardashian Sun Kissed
The Details: As the creators, ambassadors and faces for their brand Kardashian Beauty, Kim, Kourtney and Khloé have become beauty icons for a new generation of women. “There’s a glam girl in all of us and it’s a dream come true for us to have our own makeup line and to share it with women around the world,” say the sisters. In addition to cosmetics, the sisters were also motivated to create other beauty products. Often asked by fans how they maintain their signature head-to-toe golden glow, the trio was also inspired to launch Kardashian Sun Kissed, a three-step sunless-tanning system that is sold exclusively at Ulta. And in the spring, the sisters will also debut a hair-care line in partnership with Farouk Systems that will include salon-quality styling products, tools and accessories. “Our personal desire for healthy, beautiful hair and hands-on product development has allowed us to design products we felt were missing in the market.”
The Celebs: Daisy Fuentes, Sherri Shepherd and Tabatha Coffey
The Brand: LUXHAIR
The Details: Inspired, created and endorsed by celebrities Sherri Shepherd, Daisy Fuentes and Tabatha Coffey, LUXHAIR’s fashionable faux hairstyles (each of the three celebs has her own line within the collection) include wigs, add-ons and extensions. Each piece features an exclusive heat-friendly synthetic fiber, allowing you to style them so they look and feel like the real thing. “See it, shake it, touch it, love it. Believe it! Your dream hair is here and it couldn’t be easier,” says Tabatha. It looks and feels natural and it’s even better than the hair you’ve got. These aren’t wigs or extensions–they’re secret weapons.”
