Liposuction is a big commitment. The procedure has the power to completely transform your body. However, if done properly and by a board certified plastic surgeon, it should look natural. Experts who have been performing the procedure for years share some of the clear-cut signs that you had top-notch liposuction.

No signs of a procedure

Chicago plastic surgeon Peter Geldner, MD says, “On one level, the best signs of good liposuction are no signs at all. He added that “It’s not what you take away, but what you leave behind.” New York plastic surgeon Daniel Y. Maman, MD agrees with this adding that good liposuction should be “undetectable and conservative.”

No visible scars

Dr. Geldner says that having no visible scars is a sign of good liposuction. However, Newton Centre, MA plastic surgeon Joseph Russo, MD says “well-hidden scars” will also do.

Natural-looking curves

When liposuction is performed properly, you will see natural-looking curves that form a well-balanced physique. Most people undergo liposuction to get rid of stubborn fat pockets that often give a boxy shape,” says Houston plastic surgeon German Newall, MD

The areas that have been suctioned should have “normal contours, especially when compared to surrounding tissue,” explains Dr. Russo. If your liposuction is overdone and unnatural, it will be a dead giveaway that you had a treatment.

Dr. Maman says doctors have to “respect natural body proportions.” According to the expert, the overly contoured, aggressive abdominal etching and hip snatching age terribly, so it’s best to keep it minimal and natural.

No lumps

You likely got liposuction, in part, to get rid of some unwanted lumps and bumps. Therefore, the surgery shouldn’t result in any new, unusual lumps after the procedure, says Dr. Geldner.

Good elasticity and skin health

Dr. Russo points out that you want to see “good elasticity of the skin” following a liposuction procedure. Additionally, Dr. Geldner says you shouldn’t notice any “bizarre” changes in your skin following the procedure, such as pigment changes.

No abrupt cut-offs

An “abrupt suctioned cut-off (fullness right next to the suctioned area)” is a big no for Dr. Geldner. This cut-off would certainly draw attention to the work you’ve had done.
