Watch this YouTuber Melt Every Lipstick Available at Sephora in the Name of Science

Makeup destruction videos are nothing new and for me (and countless others) they’re super fascinating to watch, providing a sometimes soothing and satisfactory experience despite the cringeworthiness of seeing brand-brand new products lose their pristine and perfect form. Armed with the knowledge that makeup destruction videos serve a greater purpose than just smashing pretty things together, YouTuber Safiya Nygaard set out to produce the ultimate lipstick by melting together almost every single lipstick available at her local Sephora in the name of science—and I’m here for it. 

Taking traditional solid lipsticks right off the shelves (skipping past glosses, crayons, liquid lipsticks and lip pencils) Nygaard uses 603 brand name lippies and sorts them by color into the following categories: 126 nude shades, 113 reds, 132 pinks, 120 purple (or berry) shades, 57 browns, 21 oranges and 34 miscellaneous shades that run the gamut from white to turquoise.

What happens next is pure makeup magic. Nygaard melts every single solid lipstick in a commercial-grade cooking pot and using a hot plate, hair dryer, and handheld blow torch melts all of the shades together to create what she calls a “Mega Frankenphora Lipstick.” The resulting shade looks like a deep cranberry crimson reminiscent of the perfect 90s dark berry lip.

Doing her due diligence, she doesn’t just stop at the melting pot, the blogger then takes her experiment one step further and pours her new concoction into molds to produce her own solid lipstick. Molding and tubing her new creation, Nygaard puts the finished product to the test and finds that melting an immense amount of high end lipsticks together results in a creamy, semi-matte super lipstick with a high-sheen finish that lasts all day long.

The best part is, if you’re partial to the color (I want one!), you can win one for yourself or buy one of the two dupes she hunts down on a trip back to Sephora.
