Selena Gomez clearly knows her way around a makeup brush. The 32-year-old singer, actress, producer and businesswoman fills our shopping carts with beauty products and gives us application tips too. The Rare Beauty founder made makeup application a breeze with her dot system method to apply every product including concealer, contour, blush and even highlight in Rare Beauty’s recent Instagram post.

Just a Dot Here and There

Gomez developed the dot system because Rare Beauty products are “effortless to shape and sculpt—however you define it,” as per the Instagram caption. While the word “dot” describes the simple and efficient way of applying makeup, there is a science to it. Once the dots are in position, all you have to do is blend.

As shown in the Instagram video, Gomez’s concealer is simply placed over blemishes. But, contour is where things can get tricky. Gomez places these dots along the temples, below the cheekbones and scattered on the jawline for an elongated and sculpted look without the normal drag of a dewey makeup stick.

With concealer and contour set, blush and highlight can easily blend onto the same horizon with the dot method. The adjacent dot placement will enhance your cheekbones. You can add elegance to your routine by dusting your cheeks with a kiss of color directly below the glow of your favorite Rare Beauty Liquid Luminizer ($27). Fans rushed to their mirrors to take the star’s advice. “Just did this today with my Rare Beauty Foundation,” one fan wrote in the comments. “The dot system is the best,” another commenter wrote.
