Whether the result of pregnancy, hormones, genetics or aging, varicose veins and spider veins (which are smaller than the varicose variety) can cause your legs to look older than they are, even if they’re toned.
Varicose and spider veins are enlarged veins that have become strained due to increased pressure on the lower body from prolonged standing and walking. They sometimes cause pain, but their appearance alone can be reason enough to seek a solution.
The easiest way to get rid of these veins is with sclerotherapy, which usually requires two to three sessions. During the 30-minute procedure, your doctor will inject the veins with a solution that irritates their lining, forcing them to collapse.
A reportedly less-painful solution called polidocanol, which contains a natural anesthetic, is currently in the FDA-approval process. If you’re willing to wait, it should be available within the next year or so.
