Perhaps one of the most versatile of the essential oils, lavender has been shown to have antiseptic, antibiotic and antifungal properties, which make it a “must” in the world of aromatherapy. Plus, it comes up time and time again as the go-to pick for relieving tension and inducting relaxation. But, did you know there are many other essential oils that can help you de-stress? Here are four that you might not know about.
Bulgarian Rose
You probably think of rose as just having the reputation of giving a very specific floral fragrance to products, but it is also the bearer of a whole bunch of benefits. “High-quality Bulgarian rose oil has many healing and antibacterial properties,” says Kathy Phillips, founder of This Works. “It is also known to heal scarring, alleviate stress and decongest the tissues.”
Lemongrass
Another essential oil that has antiseptic properties, this one is known for its ability to boost a sluggish immune system (you’ve probably seen it in many bath products, as well as teas). The reason: Citral, the active ingredient in lemongrass, has calming properties.
Neroli
Known for its sweet-floral scent, aromatherapist Kayla Fioravanti says this is the essential oil that is “amazing when you are in a state of panic.”
Cedarwood
Calming, woodsy and warm, cedarwood is known as the essential oil that works best when dealing with grief, according to Fioravanti.
