Every Monday we take it upon ourselves to virtually applaud the women of Hollywood who have gone through some kind of transformation. Whether we follow their path to better skin or dish on their post-baby body secrets—the start of the week is a fury of makeover madness. Because, really, who doesn’t love a good makeover?
In our favorite season—awards season—it seems like every star goes through a mini makeover for the big shows. And as the countdown begins for the Oscars, the leading ladies of “LALA land” are almost ready for the big reveal. Beverly Hills dermatologist Harold Lancer, MD, shares with us how his star clients like Nicole Richie and Julianne Hough get their skin ready for the red carpet. Here is the breakdown he provided:
4 Weeks Out – “Cleanse” from the inside out
Internally—Dr. Lancer says proper nutrition is key to kick-starting what he calls “skin nutrition.” He recommends eliminating all chemical sugar substitutes and dietary replacements, and increasing consumption of whole foods and grains.
Externally—Slough off old skin with a microdermabrasion treatment. This will remove debris and dead skin cells from the body, and provide a clean canvas to treat with topicals for the coming month. Continue good skin care at home by routinely exfoliating, cleansing and moisturizing the face both morning and evening.
3 Weeks Out – Lighten and Brighten Skin
Internally—Add more essential oils and healthy fats (like salmon, sardines and almonds) to lubricate insides and dermis layers.
Externally—Introduce light-based treatments into your skin-care regimen to brighten and tighten the skin, as well as increase dermal oxygen levels. Rice-based products are great, he says, or try a specified retinol or hydroquinone-based product to brighten and even skin tone.
2 Weeks Out – Protein-Rich Topicals and Office Protocols
Internally—Eliminate sodium and all processed foods from your diet. Add probiotic supplements, which help the body absorb nutrients and aid in digestion and cellular function.
Externally—Have a stem cell facial performed with rich proteins to seal in moisture and activate cellular rejuvenation.
1 Week Out – LED Light Treatments
Internally—Replace one meal a day with a fresh cold-pressed, vegetable-based juice and add chlorophyll and aloe vera to your daily intake of fluids. Increase overall water intake (PH balanced) by 25-50% to flush the system and hydrate.
Externally—LED light treatments for face, neck, chest, arms, and shoulders are perfect finishing touches to soothe, smooth and texturize any imperfections, says Dr. Lancer. With no down time or side effects, you can treat skin up until the event day.
