The filler already approved just to treat your fine lines and wrinkles can now officially fix another skin aging concern.
Merz North America announced today that its volumizing filler Radiesse has received FDA approval to be used on hands, the most often-neglected part of the body when it comes to anti-aging. “Merz is proud to be able to provide patients and physicians with the first and only dermal filler approved by the FDA for use in the hands,” says Jim Hartman, Vice President and Head of U.S. Aesthetics/OTC for Merz North America. “Market research tells us that attention to the aesthetic appearance of hands has increased in recent years, particularly among individuals who have undergone facial rejuvenation procedures.”
After being used off label for years, this comes as great news for doctors in the field of cosmetic enhancement. “Volumizing the hands with Radiesse® allows me to enhance my patients’ overall appearance and provides the opportunity to finally rejuvenate both their hands and their faces,“ says San Diego plastic and reconstructive surgeon Amir Moradi, MD,in the company’s press release.
So what can we expect from this in-office procedure? An almost immediate reduction in the prominence of tendons, large veins and slack skin for younger, natural looking results that can last up to one year. Side effects include mild to moderate swelling and bruising, most of which resolve themselves in a few days, according to the brand.
As with any cosmetic procedure, be sure to discuss with your board certified dermatologist to make sure this filler is right for you.
