Just in time for the holiday feasting ahead comes a new study from the University of Bristol in England. Researchers have found a potential new method of weight control that involves nothing more than a little brainpower.
According to the study, believing you had a large meal can make you feel less hungry hours later. The findings show that memory makes an independent contribution to feeling full after eating a meal and can perhaps lead to new ways to reduce calories.
We know it’s easy to overindulge this time of year. If memory alone isn’t helping you to resist holiday temptations, try to schedule in some extra exercise to offset the extra calories. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics offers these holiday suggestions:
-Skip the elevator and take the stairs.
-Engage in active play with your pets, kids or grandkids.
-Enjoy a post-dinner walk with your family, even if it’s a short one.
-Do some chores around the home, such as vacuuming, sweeping or washing the windows.
