Taking home the statue is obviously the end goal for Oscar nominees this Sunday, but runner-up still sounds pretty darn sweet thanks to the infamous Nominee Gift Bag. As reported on by Page Six, this year’s version is especially over-the-top—coming in at an estimated six-figure value and including such items as sessions with a trainer, jewelry, vacations and even a dental procedure.
One beauty brand that stands out in the sea of swag: PROVEN, a new skin care startup that uses AI to create tailor-made products based on a customer’s unique skin profile (the Silicon Valley–based line soft-launched last week and currently has a toner, day serum, night serum and moisturizer that they make in-house). According to cofounder Ming Zhao, they built a one-of-a-kind system that was able to read millions of customer reviews, ingredients and scientific journals. The computers then analyzed those findings, which helped create the largest skin care database in the world, nicknamed “The Beauty Genome Project.”
While the first step is typically for users to take an online quiz—the results then run through the system and a dermatologist adds input—and receive a personalized set; for the Oscar bag, Zhao admits the company did a little “guesswork” to see what might best suit the nominees.

“In creating Margot Robbie’s [the 27-year-old is nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role] customized products, we took into account her age, skin type, geographic location and active lifestyle,” she explains. “With that information, we created clean formulations based on the latest research and most cutting-edge ingredients.”
“Margot is 27 years old, so for age prevention, we infused her formulation with stabilized growth factors from Korea. Since she lives in LA, we included second-generation vitamin C, curcumonioids, ferulic acid and Kalahari melon extract to prevent and repair her skin from sun damage and city pollution.”
Zhao also says that because Margot travels frequently and visits her hometown of Queensland, Australia the formulators wanted to deliver options for soothing skin both during and after the always-taxing plane cabin. “So we compounded a base of ceramides, fermented algae and hyaluronic acid to fortify her stratum barrier and overall skin health. Lastly, we guessed that her perpetual golden glow is from having a slightly oily skin profile, so we’ve added gently exfoliating nut acids that do not irritate sensitive skin.”
Sounds like a winner.
