If you opt to correct your vision by undergoing LASIK surgery, your doctor will ask you to make certain changes before the procedure. Contact-lens wearing needs be stopped prior to not only LASIK surgery, but the preceding eye examination, as well. Contact lenses can alter the shape of the cornea and lead to error in refraction assessment and, ultimately, the surgical procedure. Soft contact lenses should be discontinued one to two weeks before the exam and surgery, and hard contact lenses should be discontinued for two to three weeks.
