You may see your lips as just two parts-top and bottom-but when it comes to plumping injections, your doctor may start looking at them like a 15-piece puzzle.
Research published last year in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery indicate that you could be happier with your results if your doctor utilizes a new classification of 15 lip zones. Andrew A. Jacono, MD, a facial plastic surgeon in New York, tested this multi-section technique, injecting hyaluronic-acid-based Restylane in the lips 66 patients over the course of two years. The patients, ranging in age from 20 to 76, were asked to rate their satisfaction on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the most pleased. The average answer was an impressive 4.5.
Dr. Jacono believes this 15-zone technique not only allows doctors to better control shape and size during the augmentation process, but it leads to indisputably high patient satisfaction, too.
This isn’t currently the standard approach, but with this and additional research, it could gain popularity over the next few years.
