When it first hits 40 degrees in New York, things get a bit chaotic: The subway, the eternal what-will-I-wear question and, above all, the toll it takes on the skin—it’s all a touch-and-go moment where a few days off at Thanksgiving hovers like the almighty end goal, desperately waving from the horizon.

That was me to a T last week. My sleeping bag–like coat already felt like an albatross around my neck that I knew I wouldn’t be shaking until at least March; my complexion, desperate for a restart.

Then PIXI—along with the dynamic duo of makeup magician Amanda Bell and skin whisper Jean Goldman—came to town. The perfect pit stop replete of promises of glowing skin set up shop in SoHo to share all their 2020 launches (it’s all hush-hush right now but it’s A LOT and it’s amazing).

There’s a new actives-rich sheet mask (shhhhhh…) that literally works in minutes and Goldman expertly showed me how to apply the brand’s DetoxifEYE gel patches ($24) on first, then put the full-face mask on top of that for some serious double-duty depuffing action.

I. Was. Floored. Genius tip! And it totally worked. Maybe I’ve been living under a rock, but I never heard this one.

I walked out with a bit more spring in my step—a bit “glowier,” a bit less puffy and a bit more willing to face the cold. The ultimate testimonial: I quickly made plans that night to go out (it was a Wednesday and I had my sleeping bag coat in tow!) thanks to how good my skin looked. An equally solid testimonial: This is one beauty hack I can manage at home.
