Plenty of women are seeking a better butt and with several buttock enhancement options available, like butt lifts and implants, the ultimate butt can be achieved. More and more women are seeking plastic surgery to perfect their backsides—in 2011, there was a 43 percent increase in buttock implant procedures from 2010 in the U.S., according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). And those patients who have undergone buttock augmentation with implants seem to be pleased with their results.

A new study published in the September issue of the American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery compared two butt enhancement techniques—fat transfer with stem cell therapy and silicone prosthesis (implants)—in order to determine which one was better in terms of complications, pain and patient satisfaction.

For the study, researchers reviewed 129 cases between 2008 and 2011. Butt-augmentation patients who received implants were more satisfied (76 percent) than those who received fat transfer (69.7 percent).

Researchers noted that implant patients were more likely to develop seromas, (lumps caused by an accumulation of serum within the tissue) while fat transfer patients were more likely to develop lumps or dents. Only those who received implants experienced dehiscence and capsular contracture.

The study’s authors concluded that while fat grafting is gaining popularity among plastic surgeons, its results are less consistent than augmentation with implants. If you’re interested in butt augmentation, make sure you discuss both techniques and their respective pros and cons with your doctor.
