Oxygen, which has become a fixture on most spa facial menus to help soothe and purify skin, isn’t exactly new—but the way it’s being incorporated is. Innovative offerings now include more than just a shot of air. For example, full rooms devoted to inhalation therapy and body treatments that spray the skin with oxygen-rich solutions are the latest thing to take the spa world by storm.
According to Josie Feria, director of spa operations at Fontainebleau Lapis Spa in Miami, FL, oxygen isn’t what it used to be—it’s way better. She says it has made a lot of advances as a skin-care ingredient since it first hit the spa scene. “The efficacy of the delivery system and the purity of the oxygen used has made incredible progress. It keeps getting more and more effective.”
One spa that takes oxygen to the next level is the Six Senses Spa at Six Senses Ninh Van Bay, situated in a pristine setting on the East Vietnam Sea. The spa believes in delivering exclusivity and total wellness experiences. According to spa manager Christina Rieken, most visitors come to the holistic spa for the finely tailored total experiences, but the extensive menu offers just about anything you can imagine.
The spa recently began offering the uberpopular Intracueticals Oxygen range and the brand’s Hyperbaric Oxygen System (the menu currently includes four skin-specific facials and five Inhalation Therapies), and the two-day Oxygen Detox Escape is the go-to way to experience as many of these new offerings as possible. (Starting at $2,280 for three nights.)
If you do take your oxygen escapades to Vietnam, know that although the spa is open until 8pm every night, if you don’t go for a full retreat program, appointments book fast and for good reason; so make your treatment reservations before you leave home.
