Nonetheless, it’s still safe to say we toss those tiny tubes more often than our other makeup products, but what if we told you that your old mascara wands can go to good use even after it’s lash-lifting lifespan has worn out?
Good news: It’s true—your used up mascara wands can actually end up helping animals in need. A wildlife rescue organization in North Carolina recently took to Facebook to post a plea for donations of old mascara wands. According to the post, the tiny bristles on your mascara brush can actually help remove fly eggs and larva from the fur of animals. “They work great because the bristles are so close together,” the caption explains.

Unsurprisingly, after Savannah Trantham, cofounder of the Appalachian Wildlife Refuge, posted the touching message, it immediately gained more than 50,000 shares on social media. “We are stunned at the outpouring of support,” cofounder Kimberly Brewster said in a press release. “I was brought to tears by the messages thanking us for saving wild animals.”
