When you venture into online dating, one of the first things you realize is that you no longer have the advantage of personal chemistry to help guide you toward a potential date. However, you do have photos. And choosing one that realistically captures your current look is essential (rather than a misleading one taken years ago).
So we’re not really surprised to learn the numbers of baby boomers looking for love online and the throngs of baby boomers seeking cosmetic enhancements are both on the rise.
In fact, USA Today reported that people over the age 50 are the fastest-growing age group for both Match.com and eHarmony.com, two of the most popular dating sites. Simultaneously, as ABC News reports, baby boomers were the generation who contributed the most of the $10 billion spent on cosmetic surgery in 2010.
And if a photo is all they have to go off when online dating, it seems that boomers want to put their best faces forward.
According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 684,768 boomers had treatments performed in 2010. The most common? Facelifts, eyelid surgery, liposuction and non-surgical injections and laser skin resurfacing.
