One Redhead’s Quest For The Right Red Lipstick

Being known as “the redhead” here at NewBeauty is a calling card I’m proud to carry. My copper-colored locks (think shiny new penny) have become my trademark, classifying me in a small but distinct two percent of the population along with Marcia Cross, Julianne Moore, Amy Adams and Debra Messing.

With the territory, however, comes the difficult challenge of finding a lipstick to complement my peaches-and-cream skin and fiery mane. Too rosy and I look overdone. Too mauve and I look washed out. Too peach and I look outdated. The bottom line: being a redhead is no easy feat and neither is finding that just-right shade of lipstick-until now, thanks to Kanebo Sensai The Lipstick in Tsuyabeni, an elegant interpretation that lends a striking yet subdued allure for an oh-so-sexy, get-noticed look.

Inspired by the gold-embroidered, silk kimonos of the Japanese aristocracy during the Heian Period, The Lipstick features pure gold particles and ultra-plush Koishimaru silk that was once reserved only for the Japanese royal family-crowning achievements beyond the traditional moisturizing, plumping and beautifying benefits offered by most current-day lipsticks.

And, unlike most reds, which are too bright for the fair-skinned and too bold for red tresses, this sultry, sassy hue has an underlying blue tint that counteracts yellow tooth stains to make your smile appear whiter, and provides a slightly purple cast that complements, rather than contrasts, red pigments already present in the skin and hair.

Furthermore, moisturizing sunflower oil, smoothing apricot oil, and extracts of the Japanese citrus fruit yuzu, which inspires microcirculation to naturally enhance color vibrancy, combine to provide a velvety finish that truly is fit for a queen-or a redhead.
