A long, slender neck is one of the key definitions of beauty in our society, and one effective way to get there, according to Carmel, IN, dermatological surgeon C. William Hanke, MD, is to undergo neck liposuction.
It’s the treatment he called, “the No. 1, home-run procedure in all of dermatosurgery,” as he explained his technique and favorable results during the annual congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology.
The procedure, which often utilizes tumescent local anesthesia, is ideal for younger patients with good skin elasticity who may have lost the definition between their jaw and neck due to excess fat in the area, reports Skin & Allergy News. During the treatment, fat is suctioned out of the neck and along the jowls if necessary, recreating a toned neck and more facial definition.
Older patients with excess skin would likely require additional procedures like laser resurfacing and a lower facelift to tighten up any baggy skin.
Neck lipo with tumescent anesthesia (the patient is awake during the procedure) is considered very safe, according to a 2002 study that reviewed 67,000 patients and revealed that less than one in 1,000 suffered any serious complications. Complete recovery time is four to six weeks.
