In the 10 minutes I spent with former Miss Universe and Instagram darling Olivia Culpo, she called herself a “beauty freak” and rattled off more brand names than Sephora carries. Her latest beauty venture? She’s the new brand ambassador and co-collaborator for Color Ultime—a partnership she calls “seamless” because her hair color is essential to her overall look. Here, she gives us the scoop on all that and more.
NewBeauty: What has been your favorite beauty trend of the last year?
OC: I know this has been a trend for a while, but I am still a sucker for good eyebrows—I feel like they can really frame the face. Brow products just continue to develop momentum, and I have so many different brands I love for shaping my brows: Anastasia Brow Wiz, Sigma Beauty, Ecobrow, Dior, etc. I like to mix and match.
Another trend I think has also picked up momentum is microcurrent. I think most people are familiar with NuFace, but there are so many more at-home options now that are even easier to use. I first discovered microcurrent technology with NuFace, and then I started getting more intense microcurrent treatments during facials. But, I like the at-home ones because they’re a little less intense and still work.
NB: What beauty trend would you never try?
OC: I don’t even know if brow tattoos are a trend anymore, but I’ve seen them go really badly. I think at one point they were a thing, and no offense, but I just don’t think that’s the way to go.
NB: Do you have any secret beauty talents?
OC: I’m a beauty freak, and something I think I’m pretty good at is that I can do my makeup without a mirror, even lipstick. I feel like that’s really good.

NB: What haircut or color makes you feel your best?
OC: To be completely honest with you, nothing makes me feel better than the ability to change it and switch it up whenever I want. I really can’t say one hair trend that I love. I love the ability to change it depending on my mood, the time of year, what I love wearing, how I’m feeling—I also love to look at other people and see what they’re doing and wearing. It’s something that I find to be so rewarding. That’s why Color Ultime was the perfect partnership for me. It’s so accessible and all about making it easy for people to switch up their look and feel empowered doing so.
NB: Does frequently changing up your look put a lot of stress on your hair?
OC: I think if you do it the right way, no. If you find safe ways to do it and good products, it shouldn’t be a problem for your hair. I can see why people might be concerned, especially if they’re going from dark to light constantly, but there are so many easy and smart ways to quickly change up your look—even just a slightly lighter or darker shade of brown—and that’s something I do regularly.
NB: Who is your go-to hairstylist?
OC: I have so many! But I can tell you a few: Priscilla Valles, Justine Marjan, Dominick Pucciarello, Dafne Evangelista. I see a different person depending on where I am and what I’m doing. At this point, I pretty much know who the best hairstylists are in every city!
NB: Did you make any resolutions for 2020?
OC: I do so many New Year’s resolution exercises every year. This year, I made a few (I actually wrote them down in my phone): 1.) Spend more time with my family and people I love. 2.) Work smarter, not harder. 3.) Try my hardest to ignore hate and cyber bullying.
