We know about Mommy Makeovers and procedures requested by moms to look refreshed and get their pre-baby appearance back…but what about dads? Turns out more and more men, particularly dads, are turning to plastic surgery for some refreshment of their own. According to a report from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the number of cosmetic procedures performed on men has increased by more than 325 percent since 1997. Here’s what top plastic surgeons have to say about the trend.
New York plastic surgeon Douglas Monasebian, MD, says dads want plastic surgery for the same reasons moms do: to look and feel better. “There is also more competition in the workplace and dads want to look younger. Dads today are more physically fit and active. To go along with their body appearance, they want to make their face look more youthful and energetic. We are now doing our popular “Daddy Makeovers,” which include liposuction of the neck, Botox and Juvéderm for the face, and body-contouring procedures such as liposuction of the waist and love handles.”

New York plastic surgeon Kevin Tehrani, MD, agrees, and says another major factor in the spike in male procedures has to do with technological advances in treatment offerings. “The most common reason we’re seeing more dads in our office is the fact that most of the procedures performed nowadays are minimally or noninvasive.” You no longer have to go under the knife and be out of work for weeks in order to rejuvenate your look.
Dr. Tehrani says that typically, the dads that come in have significant others who are already a patient of the practice and have had good results. “The dads have seen their loved ones go through the process and improve their look, and wish to have a similar experience.”
The bottom line is, as Dr. Monasebian says: “Dads are no different from moms in wanting to look and feel their best. If we can help them achieve that, then we have done our job.”
