One Foundation, Any Coverage: This New Drugstore Invention Looks Flawless on All Skin Types

Finding the perfect foundation is no easy feat. While there’s tons of famous formulas on the market, not all of them can deliver exactly what your skin needs when it comes to a specific level of coverage. Unfortunately, the wrong foundation can leave your face looking completely smothered—caking and creasing for a mask-like effect.

While that sought-after balance between a featherweight feel and a full-coverage foundation might seem like something only found among prestige makeup brands, a new launch courtesy of NYX Cosmetics has us rethinking that notion altogether.  

Enter: The NYX Cosmetics Total Control Drop Foundation. Using a dropper applicator, this product allows users to customize their level of coverage according to the condition of their skin. Looking to cover up acne? Use the dropper to spill out four droplets. For light coverage and an almost sheer finish, only use two drops. For a medium application, three droplets are your sweet spot (don’t worry, these droplet recommendations are spelled out on the box!). No matter what kind of look you’re going for that day, all it takes is this one bottle of foundation to get you there.

While all of this may sound too good to be true, it has surprisingly lived up to our own high expectations. After trying the foundation on a person who prefers a “translucent glow” type coverage rather than one comparable to an Instagram filter, it worked remarkably well. The dropper applicator made it much easier to take control of how much pigment the wearer wanted to use without the risk of going overboard.

Although, to ensure that this product can live up to its “one foundation, any coverage” claim, we tried it out on acne-prone skin as well. The result? A matte coverage that didn’t need much more than a thin layer of about four droplets to hide any and all imperfections. The only thing we noted was that super inflamed, raised breakouts needed a bit more coverage to fully camouflage them, so either spot-treat with a concealer or use extra formula from the NYX foundation dropper to get that extra, necessary coverage.

Now, if these “foundation as a second-skin” claims aren’t enough to sell you, the price just might. This new, 24-shade formula comes in at a mere $14 and is launching later this month, making it definitely worth a try.
