There’s always some new cream on the market promising the trickling fountain of youth within its 1.8 ounce bottle. It also usually contains scientifically proven ingredients like retinoids or peptides. But sometimes a cream will boast a rare, exotic or even down right strange ingredient (think stem cells from Swiss apples, snake venom and placenta). This of course gets everyone talking.
The latest strange ingredient to soon hit the market—human umbilical cord. Scientists at a global cosmetics company have developed an anti-aging cream containing purified human umbilical cord serum that supposedly triggers fibroblasts to slow aging skin.
So how does this ingredient affect your wrinkles? Good question. Researchers say it is made up of human growth factors, proteins and cell signalers, amongst other things, that increase and restore natural collagen in the skin to plump up wrinkles and decrease fine lines.
Whether umbilical cords work or not to take the years off your face is yet to be seen. The FDA has not yet approved it. But one thing is for sure—cosmetic companies are going above and beyond to come up with unique ingredients to compete in the crowded anti-aging skin-care market.
Would you try a cream with human umbilical cord if it meant less fine lines and wrinkles?
