A day in the life of NewBeauty editor-in-chief, Yolanda Yoh Bucher, and how she’s leading the charge at the most innovative beauty magazine in the industry.

What’s the first beauty product you reach for in the morning?
. I always have a bottle of Fiji water by my bed, and it’s the first thing I reach for when I wake up. Water is an essential anti-aging component, and Fiji water has the added benefit of minerals like magnesium and silica, which help your body make more collagen.

What’s your morning beauty routine like?
I’m a new mom, so my mornings with my little one are precious, and as a result, I’ve developed a love for multitasking products like dry shampoos. Another essential of mine is Total Block by Fallene, an all-in-one sunscreen, foundation and concealer that leaves a flawless, protected finish. And, I never leave home without putting on hairspray and lip gloss. I can’t stand dry lips or flat hair!

What’s a typical workday like for you?
I like to start each day with breakfast, and my go-to is an almond milk shake with banana, flax seeds and oatmeal. When I get to the office, I usually start by checking email and social media outlets. Then, I sit down with my editorial team to go over the issue we’re currently working on–we share new findings and studies, product launches, breakthroughs and ideas. I spend the rest of the day hopping from meeting to meeting. I touch every part of the magazine from the initial brainstorm and page layouts to overseeing cover shoots, identifying trends and evaluating new opportunities for the brand. My colleagues, across all parts of the business, are exceptionally smart people, and working with them makes every day interesting.

What’s the most inspiring thing about leading a beauty magazine?
We deliver what real women want to know! Beauty is relevant to every woman in some way, and a magazine always needs to reflect what people care about. I love bringing a well-informed voice to a world that can often be fluffy. There’s science behind beauty, and the fun comes when we get to work with the industry’s top experts to get answers to the questions we all have. Getting that information, which will help women, is something that makes me excited to come to work every day.

What is your editorial vision for NewBeauty?
As an avid magazine reader, I always thought there were topics that mattered to women, such as myself, that weren’t being covered. So, the team and I created the kind of magazine we couldn’t find elsewhere. NewBeauty is a combination of things—newsworthy stories, breaking trends, curated product picks and more—and we educate women and inspire them to celebrate their own beauty. Many of our stories come to fruition because I, or another editor on my team, am curious about something and we can’t find the answer. We never give advice without conducting in-depth research and explaining “why.” All of our stories have to pass the “interesting” test.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about the science of beauty through your job?
We are all born with the same amount of fat cells. They just swell up when we aren’t being as healthy as we should. It gave me a great visualization of what happens with fat inside the body and how to stop it!

What’s a project you’re really proud of?
The Blend
($150), a fragrance line for Fred Segal that I launched with our CEO, Adam Sandow. I keep a retail display of the products in my office.
