Equal parts accessory and practical bad hair day solution, the braid is my go-to style. Side-parted and into a ponytail, down the middle, small and tight along the crown or messy and against the nape-the braid’s versatility is endless. Plus, it’s so easy to wear without the need to redo or fix in the middle of the day.
Now with so many celebrities sporting unique looks with braids on the go and the red carpet alike, it’s not surprising to learn that these styles are in demand. Who knew that other people are just as in love with it as I am? Enter the invention of the braid bar. Similar in concept to the blow-out bar for clients seeking washing and styling services, the braid bar offers styles that you can use for a night out on the town or the beach.
Both the John Barrett salon in New York and Nine Zero One salon in West Hollywood have braid bars with simple braiding; shampoo and braid; and shampoo, blow-dry and braid services. Of Nine Zero One’s four signature braids, we like the “Venice Hippie,” inspired by client Leona Lewis. It starts as a French braid on one side and finishes as a textured fishtail braid on the other for a look that is simultaneously sophisticated and casual.
