If you’re reading this blog, then you’re likely looking for ways to take better care of yourself and improve your appearance. For all of you who work so hard to stay in shape and could use just a little help in the waistline, listen up. A new system called Liposonix was just cleared by the FDA for waist circumference reduction.

Completely noninvasive, Liposonix uses high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to destroy targeted fat right under the skin’s surface-permanently. Clinical studies showed that the mean reduction in waist circumference was an inch, approximately one pant or dress size. We could all use that. Here’s the bad news: even though the system has been approved for sale in the U.S., Medicis is not currently launching it as they explore strategic alternatives for the Liposonix business. A press release stated Medicis “would anticipate that plans for a U.S. launch will be announced by an acquiring company, if any, if and when such acquiring company deems appropriate.”

So we may have to wait a little longer before we’re able to get a Liposonix treatment, but the results from a single treatment-done without anesthesia-typically show up in 8 to 12 weeks and look very promising. Stay tuned for more updates!
