My Path To Perfect Skin

It had been months since I could remember when my skin looked glowing and even. My skin was red, blotchy, oily in places yet super dry in others. Every day that I looked in the mirror I was frustrated. What the heck was going on with my face? I got worried when I noticed a rash forming on both sides of my face and along my hairline. My dermatologist diagnosed it as contact dermatitis.

I spent weeks with my hair pulled back, using a prescription cortisone cream. I changed my laundry detergent, switched to a hypoallergenic pillow and pillowcase. I tried countless varieties of bland therapeutic shampoos and conditioners. For a product junkie, this was an agonizing withdrawal period, but drastic measures had to be taken if I wanted to break the cycle of dermatitis. I switched to an organic multi-vitamin with lots of anti-inflammatory, gluten-free, hypoallergenic and vegetarian ingredients. I even cut back on sweets, coffee and wine, and doubled up on water.

Eventually my symptoms subsided, but the tone and texture of my skin were still not where I wanted them. There was only one thing left to do-look for inspiration. I began by searching my personal NewBeauty library. After reading a cleansing article, I realized that some of the basic elements of your regular cleansing ritual can make all the difference. It was at that point that I got a Clarisonic. Yes, we’ve all heard the hype and seen the demonstrations on QVC. All hype aside, it truly made a world of difference for my skin.

Those days of problem-free skin have returned. I’m still easing into adding products in my regimen (like night creams, eye serums, etc.), but I ended up trying the Clarisonic Classic with the Sensitive brush head as well as the new Deep Pore Cleansing brush head, and I’m in love. The Clarisonic effectively cleanses and softens my skin. I’m partial to the Gentle Hydro Cleanser with aloe, cucumber and Japanese green tea. I can see and feel all the dirt, excess oil and makeup being removed, and I don’t have that blotchiness and rough-textured look any longer.

It’s been a long road over the last several months of playing trial and error with my skin’s defiant behavior. For me it took a little patience-and a Clarisonic-to whip things back into shape.
