We’ve told you about the pros and cons that come with breast reduction surgery. There’s a potential of scarring, decreased chance of breastfeeding and decreased nipple sensation. However, for some women those risks far outweigh the problems that come with excessively large breasts. And a new study shows that women who do undergo breast reduction surgery are generally happy with their results too.

According to a study published in the August issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 125 women who had undergone breast reduction surgery rated their results using a questionnaire. The data showed that at six months, 90 percent of them rated their results as good to very good, and at one year the figure only slightly decreased to 80 percent.

There were also plastic surgeons surveyed at the same time. About 75 percent of them rated the women’s breast reduction results as “good” to “very good” at six months, which dropped down to about 60 percent a year later.

In general, the patients were most concerned about asymmetry between the breasts post-surgery, while the surgeons were more critical about visible scars. Then as time passed, the patients became more critical about the scars, spurring a slight drop in approval percentages by the year mark.
