Blame chlorine, beach wave sprays or a head-full of bright highlights for the reasons behind thinning hair come summer. But truth be told, while all of these factors can damage and destroy your hair, the real reason why you shed, or lose, more hair as it gets warmer is because most of us tend to have hair in the final stages of growth during the summer months.
Just a few days ago, the British Journal of Dermatology published a study reporting hair loss searches online were higher during the summer and fall months and not nearly as searched come spring. While it sounds strange, you can expect to see more hair shedding in the summer as opposed to other times of the year.

For years, there has thought to be a link between hair loss and the seasons. During the summer, hair ends its growth cycle and is more likely to fall out; in the winter, hair is in the active growing phase, so there’s less hair shedding occurring.
Like so many other things the sun effects, UV rays are believed to now play a role in hair loss. The warmer the weather, the more likely your hair is to be influenced to shed. While scientists still don’t know the exact science behind why this happens, the summer is as good of time of year as any to load up on anti-hair loss supplements and products.
