There’s always something new and intriguing that A-listers are trying out and become hooked on, sending something as simple as an unknown fruit or herb to superstar, must-have status. And while we can’t say for sure whether Gwyneth Paltrow is a fan of monkfruit or not, we wouldn’t be surprised if she had a fridge full of this of-the-moment superfood.

Cultivated in Southern China in the remote mountains of Guangxi, Guilin, monkfruit is best known for its ability to provide a yin-yang-like balance to the body. But that’s not to say its myriad of other benefits—it can do pretty much anything from alleviating indigestion, promoting restful sleep, erasing blemishes, acting as an anti-inflammatory, and combatting free radicals—have gone unnoticed.
And now, advocates of the fruit are taking it one step further by boiling the dried fruit (you can get it from SPR-FIELD, which distributes it) in water to turn it into monkfruit water, which can be enjoyed either hot or cold.
So don’t be surprised if you start hearing more about this fruit and seeing Instagram pics of your favorite celebrities sipping it. We know that if we caught the monkfruit bug, that sure enough everyone will, too.
