Aussie beauty Miranda Kerr is so much more than just a pretty face. At 32, with her Victoria’s Secret Angel days behind her, she is focused on business (her skin care line Kora Organics has quickly become coveted by beauty enthusiasts) and motherhood (her adorable 4-year-old son Flynn who got Mommy’s good looks), as well as collaborations with top fashion brands worldwide.
Yes, she is a supermodel—one of the most recognizable in the world, in fact—but what else makes her tick? Here, she shares some of her best-kept secrets with us.
NewBeauty: Which beauty products could you not live without?
Miranda Kerr: KORA Organics Luxurious Rosehip Oil, Foaming Cleanser, Citrus Mist, Hydrating Day & Night Cream and Vitamin Enhanced Lip Balm, as well as Escada Joyful, Clear Scalp & Hair Shampoo and Conditioner, tweezers, a nail file, and concealer. I’m also a fan of organic cold pressed coconut oil for a multitude of uses.
NB: Which anti-aging secrets do you swear by?
MK: Protecting your skin—I wear a wide-brimmed hat when I’m out in the sun and tinted day cream with natural SPF coverage. I also invest in regular oxygen facials. And, I exfoliate twice a week to help remove dry or dead skin cells.
NB: Are you scared of getting older?
MK: Not at all…age is just a number!
NB: What is the most important thing you’ve learned about skin care since starting your own line?
MK: Skin is our largest organ, so it’s important to nourish and feed it internally and externally with high-quality, certified-organic foods and products. There are so many amazing natural ingredients—green tea, noni, aloe vera and vitamins A, C and E—that have proven visible results and I use them in my products. Keeping your regimen simple is also important; people don’t like to overcomplicate their skin care, nor do they have the time. So for me, it’s about creating products that are the best they can be, that feed and nurture the skin and have visible results.
NB: What one product from your collection should every woman have in her beauty arsenal?
MK: I’ve had amazing results using my Luxurious Rosehip Oil ($49). It’s packed with antioxidants and acts like a multivitamin for my skin. It nourishes, protects, brightens, hydrates and repairs my skin on a cellular level. It’s my number one SOS beauty treatment and I use it every night.
NB: Has your beauty routine changed since becoming a mom?
MK: Totally. It’s simplified, but in truth, that has been more effective for me. I cleanse, tone and moisturize my skin morning and night, and exfoliate and use a mask twice a week. I also use a Clear Hair & Scalp Hair Mask once a week to keep my hair healthy and shiny.
NB: To most women, you look picture-perfect all the time. Do you have any insecurities?
MK: Everyone has insecurities, but I believe in focusing on the positives. I try my best to encourage women to focus on the parts of themselves they like and not what they don’t like.
NB: How would you describe your personal style?
MK: My style has evolved since becoming a mom, and now it’s more about comfort and function so I can keep up with my son. My go-to outfit is generally jeans, a t-shirt and flat shoes. My Grandma taught me that you don’t need to have a lot of money to have style—it’s the way you wear your clothes with grace and confidence that matters. She also taught me the importance of having pieces tailored to make them more flattering, so I like to invest in classic key pieces and have them tailored. I also think accessorizing is important—it can update a look and individualize it to make it your own.
