We’ve seen sonic technology in toothbrushes and facial cleansing devices, but the latest beauty breakthroughs come in the form of high-tech makeup brushes that give your skin a natural-looking, “airbrushed” finish. This one from Michael Todd Beauty does just that and more.

Different than a rotating makeup brush that spins makeup around and can leave you looking a little cakey, the SonicBLEND ($79) kind of pulsates, if you will, (there are three different speeds and each each bristle moves up to 400 times per second) so it “paints” your skin with just the right amount of product.
The brand says it can be used for everything from foundation to highlighter (even blush)—I tried them all, and I think foundation is the best product to use this for (maybe contouring too if you need it). I suggest trying each setting with each product type so you can get a feel for what works best in your daily routine.
In a Consumer Perception Study by an independent accredited testing facility, 97 percent of users reported that SonicBLEND helped to prevent makeup from settling in fine lines, wrinkles and pores. I agree. It uses something called Smart 3D Flaw-Fill to mask and “fill” imperfections, and it definitely left my skin looking smoother than it would have if I applied my foundation with my fingers.

Speaking of sponges, if you’re a beautyblender kind of girl, it might take you a few tries to really get the hang of this new brush, but I think you’ll love the result. And if you’re someone who steers away from sponges and the like due to risk of bacteria buildup, this brush comes with built-in protection against microbial contamination so you can feel good knowing your bristles stay clean for longer.
Another feature we love: no batteries—just charge it via USB and you’re off to the races.
