The 10 Beauty Products This Miami-Based Derm Is Never Without featured image

When a dermatologist dishes on the 10 products she can’t live without, we know they must be the best of the best. Ahead, Miami dermatologist Annie Gonzalez, MD tells all.

1 / 10

Colorescience Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield FLEX SPF 50 ($45)

“I like to incorporate sunscreen into my routine in many different forms. In the morning, I start with a lotion. This one from Colorescience has a unique enviroscreen technology and the iron oxide pigments bloom to adapt to the tone of your skin. Not only does it work for me—it has a demi-matte finish, which I love—but it also works for my patients that have a darker skin tone. It comes out white but it really does adapt. However, the brand offers a few different shades, which differ by the amount of iron oxide that is in each product.”

ZO SKIN Health Sunscreen + Powder Broad Spectrum SPF 40 ($65)

“After I use my lotion in the morning, I use a brush-on powder to reapply SPF throughout the day on top of my makeup.”

3 / 10

Skinbetter science AlphaRet Overnight Cream ($125)

“Since I began my dermatology residency, I’ve understood how important it is to integrate vitamin A—a hero ingredient when it comes to anti-aging and helping with collagen production—into my skin-care routine. This one mixes a retinol molecule with an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA). I usually tell my patients not to combine the two because it can make the skin sensitive, but this serum is tolerable by almost anyone, even those with sensitive skin. It has been a favorite of mine and I use it religiously every night. I do alternate this with a prescription-strength retinoid, specifically Altreno .05%, every other night.”

4 / 10

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask ($22)

“The lips are an area that often become dehydrated, so a very common product that I use is this one from Laneige. This is a Korean-based brand and I really like their lip masks before bed. In the morning, I will usually sweep on the Dior Addict Lip Glow ($30) because it’s very hydrating and it brings out the natural pigment in your lips. I always keep on buying these because they work so well for me. I try to use SPF lip balms when I’m sun-exposed, too.”

5 / 10

Skinbetter science InterFuse Treatment Cream Eye ($105)

“This is infused with peptides, so it really helps hydrate and decrease dark circles and puffiness. They also have the EyeMax AlphaRet Overnight Cream ($110), which is similar to the face serum, but with a lower dose of retinol for around the eye area. I’ve been alternating between these two nightly.”

6 / 10

Colorescience TotalEye 3-In-1 Renewal Therapy SPF 35 ($74)

“This looks like a concealer, but it also includes ingredients like peptides that help with dark circles and puffiness. When you’re on the go and you want SPF in your concealer, this will be a game-changer. I like that it has SPF 35 in it because sometimes you feel like you have to compromise cosmetic elegance with skin care or an SPF product, and they nailed it with this product for under the eyes. I’ve been using the shade Medium.”

7 / 10

SkinCeuticals Silymarin CF ($166)

“A good antioxidant is a must for healthy, radiant skin, so I use one every morning under my sunscreen. Lately I’ve been loving this new formula specifically for acne-prone and oily skin like mine, which is the newest addition to the Vitamin C serum SkinCeuticals family and it works like a charm to protect against free radicals while smoothing your skin texture with a touch of BHA.”

8 / 10

Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash ($7)

“Even though this has a bit of fragrance, I have been using this product for years. Its signature Moisture Renew blend formula helps the skin produce the ceramides that it needs, leaving it moisturized and nourished. I recommend it to all my patients, and it also comes in a sensitive version for those with skin conditions like eczema.”

9 / 10

Lubriderm Daily Moisture Lotion Fragrance Free ($6)

“You should always apply lotion within three to five minutes after getting out of the shower because it helps to seal in all the moisture and water into the skin. This moisturizer in particular is really family friendly—I actually use it on both my kids (ages 3+) and myself. I find that it has everything you need in a moisturizer: humectants, emollients and occlusives, without feeling heavy.”

10 / 10

Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector ($28)

“I bleach my hair and I have tons of highlights, so I can’t neglect my hair. Sun and heat also affect my hair. To combat dryness, I use Olaplex No. 3 once a week. I also use their Bonding Oil ($28) because I find that it’s a lot less heavy of an oil than other ones from other brands. It helps with frizz and flyaways, plus it has UV protection.”
