Washing your makeup brushes is never fun, but you’ve gotta do it. If you don’t, makeup and dead skin cells can build up on the bristles and cause breakouts on your skin—even worse, sometimes mold can grow on them. Ew. However, if you’re like me, you’re not a huge fan of drying your brushes on their sides—it feels like they aren’t getting the proper ventilation, right? Also, drying them right side up (in a cup or makeup organizer) can cause the water to drip down into the brush handle, which can get trapped and spread bacteria or cause erosion over time. To fix the problem, Redditor hey_im_allison came up with a DIY solution, and it’s super easy.

“Use hair ties to fasten your brushes to a bar for quick drying,” she wrote. (You can see her method in the picture above.) “While I’m washing them I set them down on a towel while I finish washing the others, then I take the time to hang them!” Underneath the hanging brushes, she also positions a fan to blow up at them, helping them dry quicker.
We’re loving this idea and can’t wait to try it—thank you Allison!
